Winter Tree ID
Join Patti Brown, education director, as she shares tips to help de-mystify tree I.D. and emphasize observation of bark, branches, form, habitat, twigs, leaf scars and buds. During this two-hour class you’ll learn the basics of tree identification (without leaves) and gain experience using a botanical key to identify native trees. The session will begin indoors with a presentation discussing characteristics, terminology, and studying twig specimens in an interactive format. Hand-outs and reference material will be provided. During the second hour, we’ll head into the woods to practice tree identification skills.
What to bring: any tree identification book, sample twigs from trees you may want identified, camera, and journal for notes. Dress for weather. This event is free and open to the public.
