Heartland Prairie Walk

Join other prairie enthusiasts for an easy hike through this 27-acre tallgrass prairie, located on the north side of Gordon Moore Park in Alton. Visitors will see and learn about various flowers, grasses, birds, trees, insects and a whole lot more. Remember to dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes!
Heartland Prairie Walks begin at 6:30 p.m on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays April - August, and at 6:00 p.m. the 2nd and 4th Thursdays September - October.
(Meet near the entrance sign at 6:30 p.m. on April 12 and 26; May 10 and 24; June 14 and 28; July 12 and 26; August 9 and 23 ** On September 13 and 27; October 11 and 25, meet near the entrance sign at 6:00 p.m.)
Would you like to participate in a prairie work day? Come an hour early to help weed, plant, and care for the prairie. Children and beginners are welcome. You may want to bring gardening gloves and a small digging tool would be helpful.
