SUMMARY:Honeysuckle Sweep: Workday at The Nature Institute
DESCRIPTION:Join The Nature Institute and the region as we eradicate honeys
 uckle. Each year\, the Missouri Botanical Garden champions an effort acros
 s the metro east to get as many people removing invasive honeysuckle as po
 ssible in March and November. The Nature Institute is happy to be part of 
 this effort\, and we invite you to come out on November 6th to help us rem
 ove honeysuckle on our preserves.\n\nWho can Participate? Anyone who is ab
 le to use hand tools to remove woody shrubs or pull small shrubs up from t
 he roots. We ask that anyone under 13 attend with an adult.\n\nWhat should
  I bring? You will want to wear sturdy close-toed shoes\, long pants and m
 aybe long sleeves. If you have a pair of gloves you can bring them or use 
 the ones that TNI provides. Bring a reusable water bottle.\n\nCan you tell
  me about the work? Removing honeysuckle is a tedious but not very difficu
 lt task. Our stewardship director\, Rebekah\, will start the morning with 
 a quick lesson on how to identify honeysuckle. Then everyone will spread o
 ut in the area chosen for this work and will use small hand saws\, loppers
 \, and hand loppers to cut medium to large shrubs. Then a staff member wil
 l come and spray the stump with herbicide. Some honeysuckle is small and i
 f the ground is soft\, we will be able to just pull those small plants out
  of the ground.\n\nDo I have to stay the whole time? We appreciate as much
  or as little time as you can provide. We would prefer that everyone arriv
 e at the start so that we can be sure to get everyone to the correct locat
 ion for the work\, but if you need to leave early that is fine. We will ha
 ve a sign in and sign out sheet available so that we can track the hours v
 olunteered.\n\nDo I need to register? We would love to know if you plan to
  join us. Registering helps us ensure we have plenty of tools for all the 
 volunteers and it provides us with an email address in case we have to can
 cel for weather or some other reason. You can let us know you will be join
 ing us here.
